Georgetown City Hotel, Penang Steps on the Pedal to Raise Domestic and
Foreign Awareness in Conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014

GEORGETOWN, MARCH 2014 – Georgetown City Hotel, Penang in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia and The Star publications recently organised a cycling event themed ‘Awareness Ride’. The purpose of this collaboration was to share awareness among the public about Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

The event also aimed to educate and attract the general public and locals on the benefits of taking up cycling either as a sport or as a recreational activity option - towards achieving a healthier and balanced lifestyle. In addition, the initiative was also targeted to highlight Penang on the forefront of sports tourism by promoting cycling as a lifestyle activity.

During the event, over 50 cyclists consisting of associates and representatives of Tourism Malaysia, Georgetown City Hotel, Penang, The Star publications, Penang Malay Mountain Bikers, Penang Tourist Guide Association showed up to support the day’s activities.

The bikers set off along the designated route through the streets of Penang guided by road marshalls. The route began at the Tourism Malaysia office in Beach Street through the heritage sites around Kassim Mustafa Restaurant, New World Park, Youth Park, Gurney Plaza and finally ending at Georgetown City Hotel, Penang as the last stop. Throughout the different landmark locations of the state, Visit Malaysia Year 2014 flyers were distributed to the public by the entourage of cyclists.
